This is the 8th edition of a book referred to as 'The Bible' in the Whitsundays. First published in 1985, it has been continuously revised to keep pace with the many changes that have taken place in one of Australia's most popular holiday destinations. The book provides exhaustive, reliable detail about every nook and cranny of the Whitsundays, including the many splendid anchorages in Australia's finest cruising grounds. But it is more than a cruising guide. This book covers the whole Whitsunday area, a particularly beautiful part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, located in the Queensland tropics between latitudes 20 and 21 south. The Cumberland Islands (today more often referred to as the Whitsundays) have held a strong attraction to seafarers since James Cook charted them in 1770, although the islands were discovered long before then by Aboriginal people - in fact, before they were islands.
